LA Beer Week 2017

Come June, as we all come out of our Memorial Day BBQ comas and look toward the official start of summer, breweries in LA eagerly anticipate LA Beer Week, a yearly event that celebrates the culture of craft beer in our community.

This year LA Beer Week is in its 9th year. While Los Angeles was one of the last major US cities to join the craft beer renaissance, we were among the first few to launch a beer week just a few short years into our craft-forward beer bar phase. It was founded by Ryan Sweeney and Brandon Bradford, co-owners of Verdugo Bar in Glassell Park and veteran beer distributors, Dennis Hartman and Jay Baum. With the help of several local supporters LA Beer Week made it’s debut in mid-October of 2009. The event now has turned into an early summer celebration and is produced by the LA Brewers Guild that is in its 4th year. Having started with only a handful of breweries participating in the first LA Beer Week, there are now over 60 breweries in the Guild.

It all begins Saturday, June 17th with the grand kick off event of 3,000 attendees in Downtown Los Angeles. This year over 90 independent craft breweries are participating, featuring 180 styles of beer! The celebrations continue through Sunday, June 25th when local breweries, bars, restaurants and other venues host their own events embracing the culture of craft beer.

While the timing of our taproom opening has not allowed us to feature our beer at the Kick Off Event, a handful of us will be there supporting our fellow independent craft brewers. So this year, our focus is on bringing LA Beer Week to Montebello for the first time! All week long we will be holding events that highlight the artisan beer & gourmet food crafted right here in our community. We’ve partnered with Montebello’s, Chef Steven Ruiz, neighboring El Monte’s Dip’d Truck, and our actual neighbors across the street, Alondra’s Hot Wings to bring you craft beer collaborations. Think beer infused tacos & tortas, beer battered corn dogs and the debut of a new beer wing sauce. Our mouth is already watering.

We’ll also be introducing our first limited edition beers. Each one is uniquely crafted with LA Beer Week in mind and we’re excited to include them in our line up. As each one makes their debut, we will play up the style’s characteristics in our featured flight of the day hand selected by our brewers. Each one will be featured on tap for ONE DAY ONLY!

We end the week doing our first, Meet the Brewers event. Our brewers, Noe Tellez and Nate Sewell will be in the taproom hanging out, chatting it up about craft beer and giving personal tours of the brewhouse.

And on a final note, this week we want to thank the community of Montebello for their enthusiastic and continued support of Angry Horse Brewing. The community spirit is one of the quintessential backbones of the ideals and moral principles that make up the independent craft beer industry. This week we want to be able to give some of that community love back to Montebello. Let’s celebrate!

Cheers,

AHB
